On April 24-25, 2024, Adrian-Victor Vevera, the general director of ICI Bucharest, participated in the Conference OUTLOOK ON RESILIENCE. DAWN OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE, organised by the Euro-Atlantic Resilience Centre.

Adrian-Victor Vevera was actively involved in Round-table: AI in money laundering and crypto, discussing the impact of AI on adjusting current methods or creating new ones used for detecting and countering cryptocurrency-based money laundering or other illicit e-money activities. The conversation revolved around how financial institutions in their respective regions can effectively use AI-powered investigative tools to ensure compliance and enhance due diligence mechanisms in a rapidly evolving and highly competitive environment. Additionally, the discussion delved into the intricacies of using AI in creating financial flows, particularly in the crypto domain, which can pose significant challenges to national and international security. During the round table, experts discussed the potential risks and benefits of applying machine learning to transaction monitoring, the impact of AI on sanctions risk management, and the possibility of AI misuse in the age of cryptocurrency. The panel included speakers from various fields, such as financial regulatory institutions, sanctions compliance authorities, investigative and judicial authorities, academia and private stakeholders.

The Conference aimed to address AI's complex impact on society's resilience and explore its dual role as facilitator and disruptor in domains such as defence, communications, education, ethics, and cyber.
