The National Institute for Research and Development in Informatics – ICI Bucharest was present at the 11th edition of the International Scientific Conference SEA-CONF 2025, held from 15 to 17 May 2025, in Constanța. The event brought together representatives of the maritime industry, academia, public authorities and research, providing a framework for dialogue and collaboration in essential areas such as maritime transport, naval management and marine environmental sustainability.
ICI Bucharest contributed to the “Navigation, Transport and Management” section by presenting the paper entitled “A new paradigm in maritime sustainability: blockchain’s role in optimising transport routes”. The paper explored the potential of blockchain technology to contribute to increased operational efficiency, supply chain transparency and reduced greenhouse gas emissions, in the context of global sustainability goals..
ICI Bucharest’s participation in SEA-CONF 2025 underlines the institute’s commitment to innovation and applied research to support the transition to greener maritime transport. The presented results provide a strategic perspective on the role of blockchain in promoting a sustainable shipping industry, highlighting the need for appropriate regulatory frameworks, public policy incentives and technological innovations to overcome current barriers.
