BSC AI Factory

Responsible for the project: CSI, Dr. Eng. Adrian-Victor VEVERA

Overall objectives of the project

  1. Create an integrated European infrastructure dedicated to the development and adoption of artificial intelligence technologies, acting as an accelerator for the European innovation ecosystem.
  2. Ensure equitable access to high-performance computing (HPC) resources optimized for AI, for public and private organizations, in particular SMEs and research centers.
  3. Develop and test innovative AI solutions, with applicability in public administration, health, biotechnology, energy, agriculture, finance, media and industry.
  4. Strengthen Europe's role in the field of AI, by adopting an ethical, sustainable and competitive framework aligned with EU values.
  5. Increase training capacity, networking and cross-border collaboration between actors involved in the AI ecosystem: governments, academia, industry and start-ups.

Project description

BSC AI Factory, part of the European network of Artificial Intelligence Factories, aims to create an integrated framework to accelerate the application of AI in industry, research and public administration.

The project aims to:

  • provide access to AI and HPC optimized computing resources, intended for training and testing AI models at a large scale;
  • support the development of AI solutions with impact in key areas: public administration, health, biotechnology, energy, agriculture, media, finance;
  • to provide scientific and technical expertise for users in partner states, including in the evaluation of AI technologies, development of prototypes, proof-of-concept and optimization of applications;
  • to strengthen regional and European collaboration in the field of AI, by creating a specialized hub that connects Romania to the European AI network and to the EuroHPC communities.

Within the project, ICI Bucharest facilitates access for Romanian actors, SMEs, public institutions, universities, and researchers to advanced European resources, while supporting the national capacity for innovation and the adoption of AI solutions.

Expected results

  1. Operationalization of an Artificial Intelligence Factory at the European level, fully integrated into the EuroHPC network.
  2. Increasing access of SMEs, start-ups and public institutions to advanced computing resources, reducing technical and financial barriers to the adoption of AI.
  3. Developing innovative AI models and solutions with cross-cutting applicability in critical areas: health, administration, biotechnology, energy, agriculture, media, and finance.
  4. Accelerating scientific and technological research by providing a high-performance experimental framework for testing emerging AI technologies.
  5. Creating a European collaborative network in the field of AI, facilitating the exchange of knowledge, training, innovation programs and transnational projects.
  6. Contributing to the development of a sustainable and competitive digital economy, in line with European values and legislation on AI.
