Overall objectives of the project

• intelligent environment concept analysis, taking into account its functional components, including communications support, as well as general and specific security issues for Smart Environment and typical applications (Smart Home, Smart Community, Smart City classes);
• definition and characterization of the smart environment through the components of the supporting infrastructures, with an emphasis on the place and role of communications in such an environment;
• definition of security functions in communication systems and networks, adapting to the specifics of data communications applications in the smart environment;
• providing technical basics for adapting security mechanisms to real-world application requirements for smart environments, with a focus on typical Smart Home and Smart City applications.

Project description

The project aims at identifying and characterizing data security issues in smart environments, as well as in the possibilities to deploy and optimize data security features for smart environments in accordance with their specific requirements.

The definition and characterization of the smart environment takes into account the components of the supporting infrastructures (the whole of the resources together with the functional dependencies between them and which coordinate the defining characteristics of such an operational environment). In this context, consideration will be given to the place and role of communications in smart environments.

The project will define security features in communications systems and networks adapting to the specifics of data communications applications in the smart environment and will provide technical basics for adapting security mechanisms to real-world application requirements developed for smart environments, focusing on typical Smart Home and Smart City Applications.

Results

• study on the general definition of the smart environment and the specificity of its components, including for communication networks;
• study to present the place and role of communication systems and networks in the whole of the smart media components;
• study to define the security functions of communication systems and networks, focusing on the integrity and authenticity of transmitted data;
• study to present the ways and procedures for ensuring the security level of the communication systems and networks necessary for the transmission of data;
• study on identifying and describing the technical and procedural aspects of ensuring the security level of smart communication systems and networks;
• study on considerations and recommendations for ensuring the security level of data communications in smart environments.
