InfoCons, Our Partner, on the Theme of World Intellectual Property Day 2026

Our partner at InfoCons, acting as observer member of WIPO / OMPI and a member organization of EUIPO, announces the theme of World Intellectual Property Day 2026: “Choose Original, Choose Safe! Ready, Steady, Innovate!”.

Every year, on 26 April, the international community marks World Intellectual Property Day, an opportunity to highlight the important role of intellectual property rights in fostering creativity, innovation, and economic development.

In 2026, World Intellectual Property Day highlights the connection between intellectual property and sport: “Choose Original, Choose Safe! Ready, Steady, Innovate!” The theme emphasizes how patents, trademarks, designs, and copyrights support athletic performance, technological progress, and consumer safety.

Contemporary sport represents a complex ecosystem at the intersection of technology, fashion, health, entertainment, media, and consumer goods. From innovative sports equipment and cutting-edge materials to globally recognized brands and iconic designs, intellectual property is the key element that sustains this dynamic environment.

In this context, InfoCons, as an observer member of WIPO and a member organization of EUIPO, promotes the theme “Choose Original, Choose Safe! Ready, Steady, Innovate!” and underscores the importance of choosing original, compliant, and safe products, particularly in the field of sport.

World Consumer Rights Day 2026

“Safe Products – Confident Consumers”

On 15 March 2026, World Consumer Rights Day is observed under the theme “Safe Products – Confident Consumers”, highlighting the role of product safety in building and maintaining consumer trust in an increasingly digitalized global marketplace.

The two themes—product safety from an intellectual property perspective and consumer protection—are interconnected. Counterfeit and non-compliant products not only infringe intellectual property rights but can also pose real risks to consumer health and safety, while negatively impacting the economy and innovation.

The European InfoCons Application – An Information and Prevention Tool

A central element linking these two themes is the Free European InfoCons Application, through which consumers can quickly check whether the products they intend to purchase are subject to non-compliance alerts issued at the European Union and Türkiye levels.

Through the Alerts section, the application provides transparent access to daily updated information on both non-food and food products, including:

* product name;

* affected country;

* risk level;

* product origin;

* date the alert entered into force;

* product image.

ATTENTION! All products included in the European alert system pose a direct risk and may be identified in both physical stores and online platforms.

Sport, Product Safety, and the Winter Olympic Games

In the context of the Winter Olympic Games, the importance of safe and original products becomes even more relevant. Sports equipment for winter disciplines, as well as products intended for supporters, are among those most exposed to the risk of counterfeiting and non-compliance.

The use of such products may lead to:

* accidents and injuries;

* compromised athletic performance;

* economic losses;

* erosion of consumer trust.

The theme of World Intellectual Property Day 2026, correlated with World Consumer Rights Day 2026, conveys a shared, clear, and coherent message: Choose Original, Choose Safe! Ready, Steady, Innovate!
