Placed among the Meridional Carpathians, the Danube, the Tisa and the Mures rivers,
Banat historical province has
as main towns Timisoara,
Arad, Resita and Lugoj.
The relief is composed by a mountain area in the East and South (a part of the Poiana Rusca,
Tarcu, Godeanu, Mehedinti Mountains and Almajului and Semenic Mountains) covered by large
forests and pastures, an area with hills in the center (Western Piemonts)
and a meadow area in the West (the South-Eastern part of the Tisa plain).
The climate of the region is milder than that from the rest of the country and more
uniform in variations among seasons.
In the plain area the influences of the mediterranean climate are obvious;
for instance, there grows the wild lilac.
It is an area with various oare deposits and thermal
(Herculane Baths) or cold (Buzias, Lipova)
mineral springs, as well as with the greatest marble exploitation from the country (at Ruschita).
