Summer resort of national importance, situated in SE
extremity of Romania, on the shore of the Black Sea, 5 km N of
the town of mangalia (Constanta county) to which it belongs
administratively. It is a new resort (inaugurated in July 1968)
which has many modern botels, restaurants, hars and night clubs,
campground, cinema, tennis and minigolf courts, pools, bowling,
etc. In the summer months the sky is mostly clear, the sun
shining for an average 10-12 hours a day. The annual average
temperature is of 11°C (July average temperature above 22°C;
January average 0°C). Reduced precipitation (about 400 mm
annually). Natural cure factors are the water of the Black Sea
which is chlorided, sulphated, sodic, magnesian, bypotonic
(mineralization 15.5g), and the marine climate rich in saline
aerosols and solar radiation. Large fine-sand beaches developed
for heliotherapy and wave therapy. The resort, with the sun and
the sea, benefits both healty helidaymakers and ailing people,
for tratment (hypothyroidism, lymphatism, secondary anemia,
decalcification, certain dermatoses and rheumatic diseases). Many
opportunities for entertainment and water sports, amusements,
internal and foreign trips, etc.
