It is one of the most fascinating itinerary on D.N. 18, Baia Mare - Sighetu Marmatiei. It is known for the beauty of landscape, tourist attraction and folk art and arhitecture: houses, monumental wooden gates,wooden churces with high steeples, with a remarcable artistic value. Here, in Mara Valley, if you come into peasant house have an impression that you are into museum of folk art. The most representative is "camera mare" (big room). It have many texture, ceramics objects and domestic tools, all made from wood and very artistic.
Baia Sprie, old extract centre of non-ferrous ore, it is known in XIV century like "Medium Mons". Tourist attractions: City Hall, wooden house Csaszi.
In the Gutai pass (1109) you can stay at the "Pintea Viteazul" inn. Near by this place there is Pintea's Spring. This name remember the known outlaw from Maramures, Grigore Pintea, an hero of the uprising between 1703-1711. From here, on path, you can go at rock named "Creasta Cocosului" (1438 m) and Gutai peak (1442 m).
Mara is a village like a museum of folk art in the open. Houses, wooden pillar and gates carved with Maramures traditional element will delight you.
Sat - Sugatag. It is famous for furrier's trade. From this place, on lateral way (5 km) you can go to Ocna Sugatag, spa with treatment base, covered or in the open air piscine.
Sighetu Marmatiei This city is certified in documents at 1346. It is an important cultural centre with old traditions.
Tourist attractions: City Museum with an section about ethnography wich contains valuable collections of folk masks, old ceramics, carpets, wood carvings; Vilagge Museum from Maramures; "Gradina Morii" park; in the last week of year, in Sighetu Marmatiei take place ample folk festival, dedicated to winter's customs.
From Sighetu Marmatiei, to west on D.J. 183 you can go in Sãpânta, where tourists can admire counterpanes from Maramures - wool shaggy blankets made in very original colour and motives, and original cemetery known "Cimitirul vesel" (Merry cemetery). Going at D.J. 183 to Negresti Oas you can halt at "Sambra oilor" inn on the Huta Hill. Now, you will enter the "Tara Oasului".
