Following the meeting he and the Romanian President Ion Iliescu had in Johannesburg, on the 4th of September, the American secretary of State, Colin Powell, said that the US and President George Bush would continue to support the strong enlargement of NATO, in which Romania and Bulgaria are included as key elements of the process to take place this fall, in Prague. The Romanian chief of State appreciated that the message was totally positive and appreciative towards Romanian actions in the aftermath of Sept. 11. Iliescu consideres that Colin Powell thinks Romania can expect positive outcomes at the Prague NATO summit, this November - reports the ROMANIAN RADIO BROADCASTING CORPORATION.

The Speaker of the Romanian Chamber of Deputies, Valer Dorneanu, presented the main issues for the current parliamentary session: passing the package of laws that regard joining NATO and the EU, the bills on continuing the constitutional reform, also the institutional, economic and social reforms, and the Goverment Ordinances issued this summer - reports the ROMANIAN RADIO BROADCASTING CORPORATION.

Proposal to Complete the Law of the Foreigners in Romania, Debated by the Romanian Senators

The Committees of Justice and Defense of the Romanian Senate passed a proposal designed to complete the foreigners regime in Romania - reports the ROMANIAN RADIO BROADCASTING CORPORATION. There are implemented special measures, in order not to allow those foreign persons who have committed crimes the seriousness of which is addmitted by the entire international community to settle in Romania. The report of the two committees will be submitted to the approval of the Senate plenum.

In the Venus Resort - Local Public AdMinistration Courses for the Youth of the Greater Romania Party

The Organization of the Youth of the Greater Romania Party met the Prime - Vice - President of the party, Corneliu Ciontu, yesterday, on the occasion of the local public administration courses in the Romanian Venus resort - reports the ROMANIAN RADIO BROADCASTING CORPORATION. The GRP leader presented the economic situation of our country during the last 13 years. Also, he suggested the GRP younger members to better understand the democratic values and to get more involved into the administrative programs in the cities they come from.

The Romanian Alfa Cartel Supports the Amendments That where Introduced by the World Confederation of Labour

The national trade union confederation, the Alfa Cartel, supports the amendments reffering to the decent labour and the rights of workers, introduced by the World Confederation of Labour at the negociations at the World Summit for Sustainable Development - reports the ROMANIAN RADIO BROADCASTING CORPORATION. This attitude came as a result of the fact that the bill of the final resolution of the summit did not reffer to the key aspects of the social dimension. Tha Alfa Cartel asks the world leaders to focus on an action plan, where solidarity, human rights, dignity and labour standards should not be negotiable.

• The Romanian Foreign Affairs Ministry called the annual meeting of the ambassadors and consuls general of Romania, during September 5-9; on the first day, the guest of honour will be the Hungarian Foreign Affairs Minister, Laszlo Kovacs, and there will be press statements of the Foreign Affairs Ministers Mircea Geoana and Laszlo Kovacs.
• The French Minister of the European Affairs, Noelle Lenoir, travelled to Romania on an official two-day visit, and will attend the opening of the annual meeting of the Romanian Ambassadors abroad.
• The Co-President of the American Committee for NATO, Bruce Jackson, is visiting Romania, during Sept. 5-8. He too will attend the reunion of the Romanian Ambassadors.
• The official opening of the Romanian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, attended by the Romanian Prime Minister Adrian Nastase, the German Minister of the Economy and Technology, Werner Muller and Dan Ioan Popescu, the Romanian Minister of Industry and Resources.
• The Romanian Minister of Health and Family, Daniela Bartos, attends the launch of the campaign "A Simple Touch Can Save Your Life", part of a larger program of discovering and treating brest diseases.
• Press conference of the National Liberal Party, on the subject of "Legislative Priorities of the Parliamantary Groups of the NLP During the Current Session".

ANNIVERSAIRES AND COMEMORATIONS

• 1862: "The National Association for the Culture and Unity of the Romanian People" is set up.
• 1940: The Romanian Constitution functioning from 1938 was suspended; King Carol II hands the main prerogatives to General Ion Antonescu.
