All the members of the Parliament could receive a pension on the pattern of the magistrates' pensions - reports ROMANIAN RADIO BROADCASTING CORPORATION. The Committee for Labour and Social Protection of the Chamber of Deputies voted that pensions should equal 64% of the MP wages.

Romania's Chief Negotiator with the EU Asked the Senate to Speed Up Some Bills

Romania's Chief Negotiator with the EU, Vasile Puscas, asked the Romanian Senate to speed up the voting for the bills referring to the agriculture credit, the market of the crude tabacco, the agricultural cooperatives, the commercial activity and the transportation infrastructure - reports ROMANIAN RADIO BROADCASTING CORPORATION. The term for this projects is December, as it is for the domestic public audit bill, fighting organized crime and thermic energy ones.

Taking Responsibility for the New Labour Code

On Monday, the two Chambers of the Romanian Parliament will meet in a joint session designed for the Government to take responsibility for the new Labour Code - reports ROMANIAN RADIO BROADCASTING CORPORATION. Prime Minister Adrian Nastase detailed on the subject and said that one of the reasons was that a new code was needed to regulate the labour relationships and put this law in agreement with the similar European laws.

Possible Censorhsip Motion Initiated by the National Liberal Party and the Democratic Party

The Senators and MPs of the NLP and the DP will decide, on Monday, if they sign a joint censorship motion following the Government's taking responsibility for the new Labour Code - reports ROMANIAN RADIO BROADCASTING CORPORATION. The leader of the NLP MPs, Crin Antonescu, said the number of Senators and MPs of the two parties was not enough for such an action and, because Greater Romania Party had already announced it would not support the motion, they would have to convince the members of the SDP and Democratic Union of Magyars in Romania to sign it.

Prime Minister Nastase Visited Ireland

Romanian Prime Minister Adrian Nastase visited Ireland, at the invitation of his Irish counterpart, Bernie Ahern - reports ROMANIAN RADIO BROADCASTING CORPORATION. Nastase met senior officials and the local media, as well as the members of the Romanian community in Ireland. Today, he will meet his Irish counterpart, the two delegations will discuss and the Romanian Prime Minister will be met by the Irish President, Mrs. Mary McAlleese.

Romanian Minister for European Integration Met the Danish Ambassador at the EU

The Romanian Minister for European Integration, Hildegard Puwak, met the Danish Ambassador at the EU - reports ROMANIAN RADIO BROADCASTING CORPORATION - and presented Romania's demands in connection with the Copenhagen summit, about to take place in the timeframe Dec. 12-13. She said Romania wanted to get the re-confirmation of the January 1, 2007 as the moment for our country's joining the EU, a clear timetable for the joining negotiations and additional financial assistence.

• Prime Minister Adrian Nastase continues his official visit to Ireland, honouring the invitation of his Irish counterpart, Bernie Ahern.
• The working session of the Committee for Social Dialogue takes place at the Romanian Internal Affairs Ministry; Gen. Pavel Abraham, State Secretary and Chairman of the Committee, attends the event.

ANNIVERSAIRES AND COMMEMORATIONS

• 1887, Dec. 5/17: The Convention for the protection of the literary and artistic works became functional in Romania.
• 1943: Nicolae Vacaroiu was born; he is currently Senator of the Social-Democratic Party and the Speaker of the Romanian Senate.
• 1975: Romanian prose writer and literature historian Dinu Pillat died; he was the son of the poet Ion Pillat.
• 1987: Poet and translator Leonid Dimov died.
