In a press conference at the Timisoara International Airport the President of Romania Ion Iliescu said he was happy to have been invited to be present at the events occasioned by the commemoration of the Revolution of December 1989. He said that at Timisoara there are two symbols which are important for the Romanian Revolution of 1989, that of Sacrifice on the stairs of the Cathedral and the Symbol of Victory which is the Balcony of the Opera of the city. The President of Romania said he met the representatives of all social strata and sectors during his stay at Timisoara. President Ion Iliescu urged the Revolutionary Associations of the city to be concerned by the really difficult situations of some of the revolutionaries. In another chapter the President of Romania referred to the requests of international organizations to have units of the Romanian Army present as part of the World Peace Keeping Force in AFghanistan and said the requests were sent to Parliament to be examined. In connection with the activity of the Cabinet of Bucharest the President of Romania has said the actions were coherent and efficient and the results are seen in tendencies of the Parliament of Romania rejected the Report of Activity of the Council of Administration of the RRBC and as a consequence the entire CA was dismissed de jure and de facto, the President of the Council included. Reverting to the question addressed to the President of Romania by a media person the President said that the situation was the result of a Parliamentary decision ; provisional measures were adopted to cover the entire period until a new CA would be nominated and then assigned. President Ion Iliescu added that he himself was interested in the solving of the situation, reports ROMANIAN RADIO BROADCASTING CORPORATION.
Inauguration of the New Press Center of P S D
At the Central Headquarters of PSD inaugurated was the Press Center of the Party in the presence of the Secreary General of the Party, Cozmin Gusa, the Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies Valer Dorneanu as well as other VIPs. Then followed a show on the occasion of Christmas and the New Year at which invited were party members as well as media persons, reports ROMANIAN RADIO BROADCASTING CORPORATION.
Increase of Costs of Natural Gas
Price of natural gas for the population will increase starting January 2002 following the increase of the ratio USD - LEI announced the national authority of balancing prices and costs of natural gas, power and mineral resources. ROMANIAN RADIO BROADCASTING CORPORATION also reports that the increase of price is necessary due to supplimentary imports of gas for individual houselholds, schools, hospitals and area heat distribution centers and consumers in the first place.
The Meeting of Prime Minister Adrian Nastase Depends on Results of Negociations on the Memorandum Regarding the Application of the Bill of Law on the Statute of Magyars Living Outside the Borders of Hungary
The Prime Minister of Romania Adrian Nastase said during the weekly video conference with Prefects all over the country at the Victoria Palace that it is possible he meets with the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Saturday in Budapest but that the meeting depends on the results of negociations in the Hungarian capital city on the Bill of Law regarding the statute of Magyars living outside the borders of the country. Prime Minister Adrian Nastase added Romania wishes to have good relations with Hungary while concerns to support each other's minority groups in the other country should be within European accepted levels. " We were disturbed by the inclusion of economic and social rights. I am not commenting the solutions which are being foressen but in the conditions in which our observations are accepted we want to avoid feelings of conflict outside what really is or could really be at stake for the sovereignty of the Romanian state ", said Prime Minister Adrian Nastase.
The Emergency Ordinance regarding the ratification of the accord between the Cabinets of Romania and Austria regarding readmission of persons signed in Vienna on 28 of last month as well as its protocole was approved during the Bucharest Cabinet weekly session on Thursday, reports ROMANIAN RADIO BROADCASTING CORPORATION.
