The President of Romania, Ion Iliescu, attended on Sunday the opening of the summer university NICOLAE IORGA which this year is devoted to the commemoration of 400 years since the assassination of Prince and Ruler Michael the Valliant.
The President of Romania Ion Iliescu said on the occasion of his presence at Valenii de Munte that it was of paramount importance to preserve the unity and integrity of the Romanian state which, in their turn, are the essential conditions for the economic and social development of the country. Romania's wish to integrate in European structures does in no sense mean renunciation to national identity but on the contrary the better capitalization of the patrimony of each and every people.
The general theme of the summer courses of the University NICOLAE IORGA this summer is devoted to the life and work of Prince and Ruler Michael the Valliant who united for the first time in the modern era the three Romanian Provinces, reports ROMANIAN RADIO BROADCASTING CORPORATION.
Press Conference of PNL - National Liberal Party
At the Press Conference of PNL leader Valeriu Stoica said that it was necessary for all political parties, either members of the Romanian Parliament or those outside the Parliament of Romania, to rally together round the National Liberal Party to make up a strong right-wing opposition force against the ruling PSD - Social Democratic Party, informs ROMANIAN RADIO BROADCASTING CORPORATION. Mr. Stoica also said that PSD promotes the image of its leader and nobody and nothing else whereas the National Liberal Party - stressed Leader Stoica - bases its activity on liberal principles.
Flowers for the MARINERS' CROSS
Near the CASINO Palace of the town of Constanta there is the MARINERS' CROSS which is the symbol of the Romanian Sea Navy. As the Romanian Navy celebrates its yearly holiday on 15 August wreaths of flowers were laid at the Cross yesterday to pay hommage to all those that gave their life to the glory of the Romanian flag on the seas and oceans of the Earth.
ROMANIAN RADIO BROADCASTING CORPORATION also reports that present were representatives of the Chiefs of Staff of the Romanian navy, war veterans, officers and a large crowd.
The Second session started early in the morning and includes about 25,000 school students all over the country who did not manage to pass the exam in its first session. The final results will be known on 29 August informs ROMANIAN RADIO BROADCASTING CORPORATION.
Nadlac Frontier Point Was Very Crowded
County Arad Nadlac frontier point was very crowded yesterday due to the large number of tourists coming to Romania and to the fact that there was no power for a couple of hours so the computers did not work. Shortage of power was caused by the rain-storms in the area.
Local authorities reccomend that tourists and persons that cross the frontier point use the other two passage and custom points at Turnu and Varsand, informs ROMANIAN RADIO BROADCASTING CORPORATION.
The city of Botosani hosted the second session of the Upper Prut region with the participation of representatives of counties Botosani and Suceava of Romania, of Balti and Edinet of the Republic of Moldova and the Ukraine. One of the rezolutions adopted by the session at the initiative of the Chambers of Commerce of the five counties in the Euro-region provides for a 50 per cent cut down of the taxes due when incepting commercial companies with mixed capital in that area, informs ROMANIAN RADIO BROADCASTING CORPORATION.
The Armenian Community of that region of Romania celebrated 600 years since the building of the Christian Orthodox Bishopric of Suceava and also 1700 years since the proclamation of Christian Orthodox Faith as state religion in Armenia, reports ROMANIAN RADIO BROADCASTING CORPORATION. Present and attending has been a large number of officials representing both the Church and the other areas of spiritual life and activity in this country. Among them there also has been the Romanian Minister of Culture and Cults, Razvan Theodorescu.
