Gheorghe Titeica(1873-1939) |
|
Romanian mathematician. Professor at the University of Bucharest and the Polytechnic School of Bucharest; member of the Romanian Academy and of other foreign academies and scientific associations, doctor honoris causa of the Warsaw University. Gheorghe Titeica's international scientific reputation was due to his work on differential geometry. He mainly analysed the networks in the n-dimension space, defined by the Laplace equation. He introduced a class of surfaces and a class of curves which have been known since as Titeica's surfaces and curves. He was among the founders of the centro-affine differential geometry. He greatly popularized science. He first edited, together with I. Ionescu, A. Ioachimescu and V. Cristescu, the "Gazeta matematica", and together with G. G. Longinescu, the "Nature" , a publication for disseminating scientific knowledge. He also edited, together with D. Pompeiu the "Mathematica" Journal.
Main works: "Projective Differential Geometry of Networks" (1924), "Introduction to Differential Projective Differential Geometry of Curves" (1931).
