Gheorghe Spacu

(1883-1955)

Romanian chemist. Professorand founder of the Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry School at the University of Cluj, Professor at the University of Bucharest, member of the Romanian Academy and honorary member of several foreign scientific associations. He carried out basic researches oncomplex combinations. He determined the structure of some inorganic combinations taking place in the double salts group, synthesised new classes of complex combinations (compounds of ammonium hexahydroxide, platinic hydroxide, stannous hydroxide, chloroplumbates, etc.), and conducted physico-chemical (tensiometric, refractrometric, potentiometric and spectrophotometric) studies for finding out the existence of complex combinations in a solution.
His contribution to the field of analytical chemistry consists in new qualitative and quantitative, macro- and microchemical methods, to become, in a considerable number, official methods not only in Romania but in other countries as well. He referred his research results in about 250 papers published in local or foreign journals.
