Davila, together with Nicolae Kretzulescu, inaugurated in 1857 medical instruction in Romania by founding National School of Medicine and Pharmacy. Thanks to his proficiency, several scientific associations could appear in Romania: "Medical Society" (1857), "Red Cross Society" (1876), "Natural Sciences Society" (1876), and two medical journals could be published: "Medical Register" (1862) and "Medical Gazette" (1865). During the Independence War (1877-1878) he was the head of the Army's sanitary service.
