Physicist and mathematician, participant at the 1848 Revolution.

He was professor at the Bucharest University and member of the Romanian Academy.

He published the first Romanian scientific works in mathematics, physics and chemistry, putting the basis of the Romanian terminology in these sciences. Is one of the main initiators of the Physical Science Society, founded in 1890.
