Arad county is situated in the western part of Romania, at the Hungarian border, having an area over 6.000 km2 and a population over 500.000 inhabitants.

In Arad county there were at the begining of 1997 over 7.250 economical unities with a registered capital over 350 milions USD and a turnover over 450 milions USD.
Even it is not a powerful industrial zone there are some well developed branches:
The private sector has a powerful development; only in 4 years from the falling of the communist regime were set up over 5.000 commercial private companies, which in 1994 had already exceeded as achieved profit the profit of the companies with state capital. Most of the new companies are in the sphere of the trade and services. The placement of Arad near the Hungarian and Jugoslavian border has as advantage the relatively quick enrichment of the small investors and a prospere and dynamic middle class is in development.
Arad county is a terrestrial, railway and air gate in Romania from the west having four border passage point with Hungary.
