Theodor Rogalski
(1901 - 1954)

Rogalski, Theodor, composer, conductor and pianist, Merited Master in Art. Study at the Bucharest Conservatoire (with A. CAstaldi and D. Cuclin), at Leipzig (with Karl Elert), at the Schola Cantorum from Paris (with d'Indy and Ravel). He was the conductor of the Romanian Radiobroadcasting Orchestra and of the Philharmonica orchestra from Bucharest and teacher at the Conservatoire from the same city.

He had composed chamber music: "Sonata for piano" (1919, awarded with IInd mention of Enescu Prize), "String Quartet" (1925, awarded with the Enescu Ist Prize); symphonic music ("Fresca antica", 1923; "Doua dansuri romanesti pentru suflatori, baterie si pian la patru maini", 1926; "Doua schite simfonice: Inmormantare la Patrunjel si Paparudele", 1926; "Trei dansuri romanesti: Joc din Ardeal, Gaida , Hora din Muntenia", 1950 s.o.); film music ("Viata invinge", 1952).

His music, with a popular spirit, has a prodound artistic thinking and it is ochestrated with a wigourous oloristical sense. Rogalski is one of the bigest Romanian masters of orchestration.
