Sabin Dragoi
(1894 - 1968)

Composer and folclorist, Merited Master of Art, correspondent member of Romanian Academy. He had studied in the country and in Czech Republic, where he was the student of the composers V. Novak and J. Suk. Dragoi is one of pioneers of scientifical gathering of Romanian folclore.
His creation, inspired from the popular song and dans, is over 100 works from all musical genres: "Divertisment rustic" (1928); "Petrecere populara" suite, for symphonical orchestra (1950); cantata "Mai multa lumina" (1951); two symphonical dances; film music ("Mitre Cocor"); a concerto for piano and orchestra; chamber music works, chorus music and operas: "Constantin Brancoveanu", "Kir Ianulea", "Horia" and "Napasta" (1927 - revised in 1958), after I. L. Caragiale play with the same name. Laureate of the State Prize.
