NICHITA STANESCU
(b. 1933, Ploiesti - d. 1983, Bucuresti)

He who will become the most representative poet of our times, spoiled by the public and critics, is the first born of Tatiana and Nicolae Stanescu (he says that is born "from a Romanian peasant arrived to town and a Russian woman"). His name is after his grandfathers. Highschool at Ploiesti. Philosophy in Bucharest (1957). His debut is at Tribuna. He is editor at Gazeta literara, România libera, Luceafarul. Editorial debut: Sensul iubirii (Luceafarul collection, 1960). Prizes for poetry. The most important is Herder Prize (1975). His bohemian life cost him a lost: he dies at the age of 50. He let us a legendary name and important books in the postbellic literature: O viziune a sentimentelor, Dreptul la timp, 11 elegii, Alfa, Oul si sfera, Necuvintele, Un pamânt numit România.
