MARIN SORESCU
(b. 1936, at Bulzesti, Dolj - d. 1997, Bucharest)

Representative poet and playwriter of our times. Primary school in his home village. Highschool "Fratii Buzesti" in Craiova and next Military Highschool in Predeal, graduated in 1954. Philology University in Iasi (1955-1960). After graduation his came to Bucharest, with a quick ascension in literary world, as poet, novelist, play writer, essayist. His debut was with a parody volume Singur printre poeti (1964). He is imposing himself by his original style with the volumes: Poeme (1966, Writers Union Prize), Tusiti (1970), La lilieci (1973). His exceptionally plays: Iona, Paracliserul, Matca, Exista nervi, A treia teapa, Raceala. Translated in many languages. Herder Prize in 1991. Academy member after 1989. But, in his glory, a merciless disease takes him to soon for a author who could give us more masterpieces.
