NICOLAE MANOLESCU

Literary critic of contemporary authority. Born in Ramnicu-Valcea, in a family of teachers. Hight school in Sibiu and Ramnicu-Valcea. Filology in Bucharest (1962), after he was expeled for an year, for political reasons. For many years he writes the weekly literary chronicles from Contemporanul and next Romania literara, in which he makes pertinent analyses of the daily literary phenomena.

After the revolution he starts a political life (he was even candidate to the presidency) and the literary activity remains on the second level. His most important books: Arca lui Noe (1980), Istoria critica a literaturii romane (I, 1990), and some monographies about Titu maiorescu, Alexandru Odobescu, Mihail Sadoveanu. Doctor in letters, professor at the Bucharest University.
