TITU MAIORESCU
(1840-1917)

Born in Craiova. Son of Ion Maiorescu teacher from Transylvania (mixed in 1948 Revolution). His father travels a lot, and Maiorescu finish his first degree of highschool in Brasov (1850), next at "Theresianum" institute from Wien, finishing the school excelently. He studies at the University of Berlin and Giessen, where he takes his doctorate in philosophy (1859). He finishes also the law university from Paris (1861). He had requests to stay abroad but he refuses if firmly and came to his country. Teacher at Iasi University (1862), where he stays till 1874, and where he found the famous Junimea Society (1983) and the review Convorbiri literare (1867).

Between 1874-1917 he lives in Bucharest (lawer, universitary teacher, conservatory deputy, minister, and even prime-minister), chairman of the Peace Conference from Bucharest in 1913, after the Balcanic war. He died in Bucharest having a heart attack.

Great classics of Romanian literature were formed under his patronage, during King Carol I fertile epoch.
