Historian, literary critic and novelist. Born in Falticeni, Moldavian city which gave our culture many personalities. Secondary school in Falticeni, highschool in iasi and student in Bucharest (classical languages). In 1903 takes his licence with a paper about Latin syntax. Two years teacher in Ploiesti. Doctorate in Frace in 1909. In 1919 he establish in Bucharest the Sburatorul literary club. Here many great writers will afirm themselves. He edit the review Sburatorul. He fixes a doctrine named modernism. Lovinescu became a complex personality of the literary life, school guide, having Maiorescu role from Convorbiri literare or Ibraileanu's from Viata româneasca.
Synthesis works: Modern Romanian civilisation history (I-III), Romanian contemporary literature history (I-IV), Critics (10 volumes), Memories (I-III). He wrote also prose, remarcable are the two novels about Eminescu's erothical life: Mite (1934) and Balauca (1935), having as heroines Mite Kremnitz and Veronica Micle.
