1821, July 21 The future bard in born in Bacau. From a small landlords family Vasile Alecsandri and Elena Cozoni, daughter of a Greek from Romania. As in a story, they were seven children, but they remained only three: the beautiful Catinca, Iancu - the future colonel and Vasile, who will become king of poems.
1828 The father, become rich from salt and cereals trade, buy the estate from Mircesti, near Siret river, wanted for a long time, during his travels from Bacau to Iasi and beyond Prut river. Vasile will learn in the family houses from Iasi with a monk from Maramures, Gherman Vida. Vasile Porojan, a gispy boy, will become his playmate from Mircesti.
1828-1834 Study at the V.Cuénim pension, being collegue with Kogalniceanu.
1834 Study trip to Paris, where he takes his leaving school examinations in 1835. Tries to study chemistry, medicine, law, but renounce fast, being passionate by the literature.
1838 First literary essays in French, which he knows perfectly.
1839 Returns to Moldavian and goes again in a voyage to western Europe, with C. Negri and V. Docan. The trip from Italy will inspire him in his romantic short story Buchetiera de la Florenta (published in 1840 in Dacia literara).
1840 Becomes one of the directors of the National Theatre from Iasi. His first play Farmazonul din Hârlau has representations and in 1844 the comedy Iorga de la Sadagura.
1845 Alecsandri participates, at Mânjina (a lordly house north from Galati), at the name day of Costachi Negri and his sister Elena Negri (21 years old). A passionate love story from the literature history begins. Elena, divorced not long ago, respond to the love declarations of the 24 years old young. Surrounded only by friends from Iasi (Kogalniceanu, C. Negruzzi, Alecu Russo, Ion Ionescu de la Brad) and from Muntenia (N. Balcescu, Ion Ghica). The young intellectuals were preparing here, secretly, the future of the country: 1848 Revolution, Principates Union, Independence. His shared love for Elena inspires him in writing love poems. But Elena get sick and goes, in 1846, with his brother Costache, abroad. In September the lover Vasile meets her in Venice, where they stay together for two month. Dream love that continues in another voyage in Austria, germany, France. Her chest illness is agraveting in Paris and they both go to the south of Italy, where they meet their friend Balcescu. But the days of Elena are numbered. Costache negri and Kogalniceanu come to Neaple, and in 1947 April 25, they are embarking a French ship, with the thought to transport Elena to her home land. But the tragedy takes place on the ship, on May 14, aproaching Constantinopole. Elena dies in the arms of her love one, her brother and her friend Mihalache. She is burriend in the court of the church from Pera, on her marble stone is written: Elena Negri, Moldavia, 1947, May 4. For his disapeared love he writes the poem Steluta (Little star) (the famous romance was composed by D. G. Florescu). The cycle Lacramioare is also dedicated to her.
1848 Is one of the leaders of the revolutionary movement from Iasi. Writes the poem Catre români (later with the title Desteptarea României). Runs after the defeat of the revolution to Paris through Austria and Germany, where he writes the poems Adio Moldovei and Sentinela româna.
1850 After two years of exile, returns to Moldova. At the National Theatre is represented his play Chirita în Iasi (or Doua fete si-o neneaca).
1852 Collects an arranges some marvelous pearls of the Romanian folklore published in 1952 (volume I), the second part is published in 1853: Popular poems, Some of the balads collected and rewrited by Vasile Alecsandri are: Miorita, Toma Alimos, Manastirea Arges, Novac and Corbul etc. Also, in 1853, publishes his original poems in the volume Doine si lacramioare, in Paris.
1855 Under his management appears the review România literara.
1856 Hora Unirii is published by Kogalniceanu in Steaua Dunarii. Alecsandri begins, with his whole soul, the fight for the Principates Union. At the end of this year he starts a new love story, even that he was tied up by a promisse made to Elena Negri at her death bed. At 35 years old the poet falls in love with the young Paulina Lucasievici or Locasiewicz, in a inn somewhere in Tg. Frumos (her father was the innkeeper). He lives together with Paulina in Mircesti, in 1857, November 3 is born their daughter Maria. He is happy and builds them a little house near the lordly house. The new house is tied to the old lordly house by a passage (called the vessel), where today is the Memorial Museum from Mircesti.
1859 Is named by Cuza-Voda External Affairs Minister, pleading in Occident for the Union recognision.
1860 Settles down, for his whole life, in Mircesti, near his love Paulina and their daughter Maria. He marries Paulina only later on, on 1876, October 3 (at 55 years old).
1862-1875 Writes in Mircesti the cycle Pasteluri, 40 lirical poems: Miezul iernii, Serile la Mircesti, Iarna, Gerul, La gura sobei, Oaspetii primaverii, Rodica, Lunca din Mircesti, Malul Siretului etc.
1872-1878 Writes almost his entire epical poems. Cycle Legende: Groza, Andrii-Popa, Altarul manastirii Putna, Visul lui Petru Rares, Legenda rândunicai, Grui-Sânger, Rapirea Bucovinei, Dan, capitan de plai, Dumbrava rosie s.o.
Dedicates the cycle Ostasii nostri (1878) to the Romanian heroism in the war for independence: Penes Curcanul, Sergentul, Hora de la Grivita, Hora de la Plevna s.o.
1878 Cântecul gintei latine, poem awarded at a contest from Montpellier (France).
1879 Is played his drama Despot-Voda, awarded with the Great Prize of the Romanian Academy.
1881 Writes the national fairy play Sânziana si Pepelea.
1883 Finished the drama Fântâna Blanduziei.
1885 At the National Theatre is the opening night of the drama Ovidiu.
1890 Ill of cancer for a long time, dies during the summer, at August 22, in his house from Mircesti. His hearse was a chariot pulled by four oxes.
