The National Institute for Research & Development in Informatics represents the most important Institute for research, development and innovation in Information Technology and Communications in Romania. Assuming the scientific and technological priorities in this area, ICI's mission is to consolidate its position and to develop scientific and technological support in the field of Information Technology & Communications, support needed for creating structures and services required by the knowledge-based information society.

 

 

 

Starting with 2001, ICI Bucharest has achieved from "SGS România S.A".- subsidiary of SGS, world’s leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company, ISO 9001 certification for activity in scientific research and technological development resulting in products, technologies, systems and services in the field of Information Technology.

 


BRIEF HISTORY

  • 1970 - is founded the Central Institute for Informatics (ICI) as main centre for advanced research in informatics. Throughout the years ICI has been reorganised under different names.
  • 1971  - is founded the Central Institute for Administration Systems and Automation Methods (ICSCMA); the organisation structure is designed.
  • 1973  - ICSCMA becomes the Central Institute for Administration and Informatics (ICCI); institute attributions develop on four main directions: organising the administration activity, introducing information systems, endowing the economy with calculation equipments, training specialised personnel and other coordinating attributions.
  • 1985  - ICI becomes the "Informatics" directorate within the Institute for Scientific Research and Technological Engineering for Calculation Technologies and Informatics; at this stage there is an increased interest in development and capitalisation of research outcome.
  • 1990  - a new naming: Institute for Research in Informatics (ICI), reconfiguration as an independent institute and adjustment to the market economy principles, with intention to carry on the scientific research activity.
  • 1998  - according to Government Decision no. 936/23 December 1998, the new National Institute for Research and Development in Informatics - ICI Bucharest is born
  • 2001  - ICI shifts under coordination of the Ministry of Communication and Information Society.
