August 16-22, 2011 - "ICI Bucharest, Model and Hope for Romanian Research" article published by the "Concret" weekly magazine.

"The Research activity nor dies, nor surrenders

ICI Bucharest, model and hope for romanian research

Nowadays, when other institutions in Romania are letting people off and limit their activities, still there are exceptions. One of them, and, if not the sole one, than surely the most significant one, is the National Institute for Research and Development - ICI Bucharest. This exception is even more important because it cames from a neglected area of research, an area that 20 years ago Romanians were extremely proud of."

August 18, 2011 - "The People that Put Romania on the Internet" published by "Adevărul" newspaper

"In 1993, Romania made its first connection to the Internet. In the same year the ".ro" domain is recognised internationally. Twenty years ago, in August 1991, the first Internet page and the World Wide Web (www) were born. Romania needed two years to connect to the network.

Naturally, in the beginning there was the computer. Although today it seems hard to believe, Romania was among the first ten countries in the world that started to manufacture computers nationally. As soon as 1953, at the Institute for Atomic Physics, Prof. Victor Toma designes the computer with vacuum tubes. After 11 years of hard work, in 1964, the first Romanian made computer, with germanium transistors, comes to life. At that moment, all over the world, there were only a few countries that have reached that level of performance: USA, Japan, Germany, Austria, United Kingdom, Nederland, France, Soviet Union, Italy and Denmark.

Subsequently, on July 15, 1970, it was founded the Central Institute for Informatics - called nowadays the National Institute for Research and Development in Informatics (ICI) - an institution that took the first steps in the field of computer networks and the first entity in Romania to be connected to the Internet."
