4.1. Software Tools Department

A. Areas and Activities:

  1. Development of advanced database systems - Databases Systems (INTELDATA)

    • object-oriented databases (IntelObject- complex objects management system);
    • deductive databases (DataLogic - evaluation system of the deductive queries on relational databases);
    • high level interfaces to relational databases (IntelCont - analysis and bookkeeping system based on a natural language interface);
    • distributed and heterogeneous databases analysis, design and integration techniques;
    • spatial databases;
    • Technology Transfer to Open Systems.


  2. Technologies and Tools for Artificial Intelligence and Expert Systems

    • Knowledge acquisition and structural concepts classification system (CLAS);
    • Term Subsumption Language- Based Knowledge Representation System (REGAL);
    • CASE System for Knowledge Based Systems Development (KADS-WB);
    • Formal Specification Environment of Concurrent Systems (MIE);
    • FORTRAN Software Reverse Engineering System (REVENG);
    • Integrated Environment for Training in AI.

  3. Researches on Computational Linguistics

    • computational linguistics toolbox;
    • natural language contextual generation;
    • corpora linguistics.

  4. Discrete systems simulation and optimisation. Advanced modelling and optimisation systems based mathemaical programming languages.
  5. Multicriterial mathematical models. Decision Support tools.
  6. Large -scale systems modelling and simulation. Ecosystems.
  7. Computer Networks' Related Technologies and Tools at "Network" and "Presentation" levels:

    • Strategic Planning for national system- special ministries;
    • Experiment under Internet for public administration network;
    • Development/implementation of public data banks (www servers-national home page, ICI home page, www server interfacing databases, connection to other servers).
In 1995, within the CEC-funded INDIS Programme, an www server meant for R&D activities in Romania, was installed and configured.
