E.1. ICI celebrated Its 25th Anniversary

On 22nd and 23rd September 1995, Research Institute for Informatics , an institution affiliated to the "Information Science and Technology" Section of the Romanian Academy celebrated 25 years of existence. It was the occasion for research partners and contractors , for university people and other personalities to address messages and recall the inception years of the institute.

There run a series of events:

  • An Opening Ceremony was held at the ROMEXPO S.A. Conference Hall in Bucharest. The audience included more than 600 people, either former or present employees, other invited persons.
  • A Jubilee Session generically titled: Trends in Applied Informatics". Acad. D. Dascalu, head of the "Information Science and Technology" Section of the Romanian Academy, and dr. F.G. Filip -corresponding member of the Romanian Academy, acted as moderators. Invited lectures were the following:
    • "Communication Technologies and Service Platforms for the Information Society", delivered by Professor Dr.Radu Popescu-Zeletin, from GMD- Institut f r Offene Kommunikationssysteme (GMD-FOKUS), Berlin, Technische Universit t Berlin, Germany;
    • "Tendances dans l'automatique et en relation avec le progres informatique", delivered by Professor Dr. Jacques Bernussou, from Conseil National de la Recherche Scientifique, Laboratoire d'Automatique et d'Analyse des Systemes (CNRS/LAAS), Toulouse, France;
    • "Humanized Information and Automation Systems in Enterprise Reengineering and Balanced Informatization", delivered by Dr. Florin-Gheorghe Filip, corresponding member of the Romanian Academy, director of the Research Institute for Informatics.
  • A Panel Discussion on "Information Society- Everybody's Creation" . Moderators were Dr. M. Guran and Professor M. Petrescu. Discussion was about:
    • -How to define the concept and priorities of Information Society within the context of global development of Romania;
    • -Integration into the Euroatlantic structures;
    • -Contribution of research units /IT platforms manufacturing companies;
    • -Private sector and public sector-to which extent are they involved?;
    • -Contribution of education;
    • -Social impact.
  • An "IT Exhibition" . Organizer was ing. I.Popa, deputy director of the Research Institute for Informatics. Many other exhibitors joined ICI- the main exhibitor. They were:

The Jubilee Session was dedicated a three-chapter volume titled: "25 Years of Informatics". It included " History of An Institute"; "Contributions to Research & Development" ; "Liber Amicorum".

E.2. Messages Delivered on the 25th Anniversary

The audience were presented the messages addressed by the President of Romania, Mr Ion Iliescu, by Acad. Mihai Draganescu, former president of the Romanian Academy (1990-1994) and former general director of the institute (1976-1985), by Acad. A. Sandulescu, vice president of the Romanian Academy, by dr. Doru Dumitru Palade, minister for Research and Technology, by Professor Dr. Mircea Petrescu, president of National Commission of Informatics, state secretary.
