5.2. ROEARN Node for Getting Access to EARN

The ROEARN Gateway Node became operational at ICI, in November 1992. Its main co-ordinates are:

  • co-ordinators: Iulian Popa, Eugenie Staicut
  • Bucharest-Vienna via satellite
  • 64 Kbps , TCP/IP protocol
  • users: 3,000 in the country (550 of them being connected directly to ROEARN Gateway Node installed at ICI)
  • 22 gateways (all connected to satellite line)
  • traffic : 2.5 Gbytes/month
  • switched line access for about 12o institutions
  • Users of the ROEARN Node represent research institutions, higher education institutions, professional associations, high schools, libraries,non-profit GO.
Becoming operational at ICI in July 1993, EuropaNet Gateway Node has the following characteristics:
  • Bucharest-Amsterdam leased line
  • 9600 bps, X 25 protocol, encapsulated TCP/IP
  • users: X 25, TCP/IP networks (ICI, UPB)
  • traffic: 2 Gbytes/month
